More intruders on our property...

This fat cat belongs to our next door neighbour's daughter, who is in her mid 20's. She keeps it in her bedroom because her father has a dog, but she will let her roam the hood a little everyday - and I see it once in a while in our back yard.

She's a real scaredy-cat, and not to mention overweight. Apparently sometimes she has a hard time jumping the fence because of this - and who can blame her? Bless....

I took these photos from inside and through the window, because if I had gone outside to take them she certainly would have run off 'el pronto'!

Our darling Bellina has grown rather friendly this past year or so, and I'm not sure why. She's happy to jump onto the sofa with me and just sit there until I pat and scratch her head. If I don't, she'll lick me to death. Some say it's because animals like salty skin, some say it's because they love us and are content. Well... whether I've freshly showered or not - she will keep licking and licking some more. She's gone as far as to nudge my hand for head scratches... and on rare occasions she's 'rolled' for me, which is so very cute to say the very least!

Another probable sign that she's content. ;)

Another example of too many roaming cats on our street.

This young female cat was a stray and I came to that conclusion because it was always in either our front or back yard, day and night. I fed it, played with it and loved it as much as one can love a sweet natured, playful homeless stray. On occasions I would let it inside the house, but that only infuriated our Aja, so I had to be really careful when 'Tasman' sneaked in without us knowing and gobbled up Aja's food. Having a cat door flap certainly doesn't help keep out the stays!

To cut a long story short, with the help of my niece I made sure she was re-homed including vet checked and now she's living the good life, South of the river somewhere with her forever family (one hopes). That makes me happy.

When I first found her....

Our poor Aja is a mess. In the past few years, neighours have come and gone and this includes their pets. Specifically cats. We've had the pleasure (and not so pleasurable) of many cats in our back yard but unfortunately this causes Aja behavioural problems - whether they are friendly or not. I'm a cat lover by nature and I wouldn't dream of hurting anybody else's cat just to 'get back' at anybody for making my own cat feel invaded. They are after all, just being cats.

Some visitors have been unsocialised and frightened cats, some have been very friendly cats. One in particular stands out for us AND for Aja. For some reason Aja can almost tolerate this cat but I'm not sure why. This cat is big boned, male, black, docile and friendly. I guess it helps that it's a male, but I really don't know why she is less fussed about this one, over another. And just to clarify, 'less fussed' means that she will still eventually go hide under the bed cover but not in a desperate way.

So mid last year when we first saw this cat at the door, I started calling him boof-head. He had no collar and he had war injuries from fighting with other cats in the hood, sometimes minor cuts and sometimes he'd limp but they were never permanent injuries. I'd feed him just about everyday and it seemed like he was homeless because he'd be relaxing in the back yard often.

Closer to the end of the year, we'd see him less and less quickly until we didn't see him at all for a good month or so. Of course I was worried even though it wasn't our cat, but you know.... one grows fond of animals if they around for long enough.

Then all of a sudden, he rocks up AND he's wearing a collar! 'O.C.' is the name on it with a phone number and it simply intrigues me. O.C.?? How odd. Does it stand for 'old cat' I wonder? Who knows but the owner I guess.

Now O.C. (rather than boof-head) visits once or twice a week and when he comes into the house just like it was his very own, he goes straight to Aja's food bowl. There was once a time when I'd let him because he was homeless and hungry, but now that he has an owner there is no way I'm feeding him simply because I'd only be causing him to become overweight - and we all know you shouldn't do that to an animal.

Not a lot to show, but a little to share. Just my thoughts, a sort of gentle rant and rave if you will.

It's a cruel world out there, generally; it always has been and it always will be. When it comes to the crunch everybody is looking out for themselves and only care about their own situations.

There is nobody out there that really cares and there is absolutely nobody out there that wants the best for us. Now I'm talking about people outside of family and friends... the strangers on the street. And why should they care, after all? But remember, even family members can be complete strangers.

Even friends end up being the opposite of what you thought they were, so they aren't to be trusted either. I've learned the hard way and still learning today, but I'm a heck of a lot more suspicious and questioning so as to protect myself. This is why I don't have a lot of friends at this time in my life. After all, quality outweighs quantity any old day.

I won't tell a lie though. I too don't care. But not the way you think. When I say it, what I really mean is that I give the situation straight to the Lord up above. He can deal with the tough times and upsetting situations, He can deal with the cruel and bitter people.

This is what He lovingly tells us;

`Come to me, all you who are weary from carrying heavy loads; I'll give you rest! Take my yoke and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble by heart; then you'll find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my load is light.'

Matth. 11:28-30

So easy, isn't it? Imagine if we all did this. Wouldn't it be a happier and more loving world? I guess I'm asking for too much because people will always want to be negative and loveless instead of positive and loving. Such a shame.

But I'm glad I can give 'the rubbish' to the Lord. He welcomes it with open arms.
That's how much He loves us - He's willing to take it all and dispose of it, deal with it and correct it. This is wonderful! And I pity the people/persons that don't
believe, for they have little in life and absolutely nothing substantial to look forward to.

I pray that my few words will sow a teeny seed in your heart.

Several weeks ago we adopted a sweet little baby guinea pig and I named her Punky because of the cute little tufts of hair that stick out here and there.

My second post for 2010? That's impossible!? Yet it's true.

I've not a lot to report really. Except that not too long ago we found out Mr Bellino is actually a girl! Can you imagine the shock / horror / disbelief? It hardly matters, because we love Mrs Bellina anyway. :)

Oh and this is my sisters dog, Raul. He's petrified of me. Why, you ask?
He was in Quarantine for over a month and now that he's in his own home, he still associates me with the Quarantine folk from when I used to visit. Poor fella.

It's been nearly 2 months since Aja had the stitches taken out of her nose.

This is how we thought it was going to stay for good...

But to our amazement...

Craig said he was sure it was going to leave some kind of visible scar and to this day, we are in awe that it hasn't!

What happened? She was attacked and beat up by a bully-of-a-cat in our own backyard!
Her poor little nose was ripped apart and was stitched up the next day - it was a huge ordeal for us, as you can imagine.
She's on the mend now, but I don't know if the fur will grow back normally.
Only time will tell. More photos of her progress soon.

The Siamese Cat

The Siamese is one of the first distinctly recognised breeds of Oriental cat. The exact origins of the breed are unknown, but it is believed to be from Southeast Asia, and is said to be descended from the sacred temple cats of Siam (now Thailand). Who's that fellow outside? To cut a long story short, he's a stray that adopted us last year. Yes you read right - adopted us. The owners must have moved and left him behind because when we first saw him he had a collar on. One day he appeared without a collar and wouldn't go away.
I started feeding him of course because nobody wants to starve a poor cat now do they?
He's been living in our garden ever since, but we are trying to re-home it because our girl does not get along with him. Quite frankly I think she hates him. Anybody want a strong, affectionate, playful male cat?

Wouldn't you just love to cuddle and keep this furry creature? Any takers??

Hi, I'm Aja's mum, Patrizia. Nice to meet you.
I started this blog months and months ago, but failed to actually post anything - isn't that silly? Well, I thought it was about time to start. Why start it? Just to show off our gorgeous girl 'Aja', our 5 year old Siamese chocolate point feline.

Not much to say on this post because I'm not the best writer and I need more time to get into the swing of things.. you understand of course.
